Yes, like Wynn said, both games were created by Žygimantas Beržiūnas. FL was created in 2002 and later sold to Dokeda and legendary player Nil/Gato became an admin. SL was created about a year later than FL.
In FL I was in a clan named Shikshiena all the time.
I also agree that the game-play is very different. For example, IIRC, HWs/nearly-uncapturable-planets were in SL only, and FL players didn't need any of those (well, OK, you could have 50 FFs on a planet, but that's just a matter of time). One could play having no planets but only ships and keep ravaging the universe for a month and win the round, while in SL you get defeated instantly when you have no planets. So, it's obvious that different strategies are needed in these games.
