I'm not against spending money for a game at all. Just donating game shouldn't be buying credits. That is simply not fair.

it is fair... we are helping out the game by sending in money... and the game is helping us out by giving us credits... u know .. u wouldnt b able to buy so much stuff on the market if it wasnt so low.... i bought 1 mil troops last night for 27 each! .... thats low....

Yeah, I think it is fair that some people have more money to spend on things they enjoy, and others have more time. ROS2 is not a rich kid, but he has been away for a while from the game, and spending a few bucks enables him to get restarted faster in the game. It also helps to cover some of the costs of the game.

With income from sale of credits to cover cost of operations, the game would either be abandoned (which was Zygi's solution, as he was planning to pull the plug on the server had I not stepped in and purchased the game), or it would have to become fee based for all players, or almost all players (like fatelords, which is difficult to play with any degree of satisfaction without paying a fee for planet upgrades).

Here, most players can continue to play for free and we do have funds to be able to upgrade to a new and faster server, mostly because of sponsorship from a few players who gain a modest advantage (no more than $50.00 worth of credits per month) via helping to fund the cost of the game.

Looking for donations to the game with no benefit from such contributions is rather unrealistic, as all games which are successful over time have some means of rewarding players who contribute to the cost of operations of the game.

I want this game to stay free, but to offer benefits for donors to the game via purchase of credits to be modest. We have had discussions about the idea of changing market units to being something other than credits, so only players who donate cash can get planet upgrade or other upgrades, but a majority of skylords players do not like that outcome.

I think you can't gain any bigger advantage by spending even maximum $50/mo. By the way, where do you buy credits? I don't see anything in "Upgrades" page :D

I've never liked the idea of buying credits for money because I think it gives an unfair advantage to players who are either rich or have the ability to pay where as others do not for various reasons. However I agree it is neccessary for the game, without contributions SL would not be able to continue functioning. Therefore to attract donations of this type there needs to be some reward, credits seems the only realistic reward to me as it offers a choice of upgrades and what you can buy.

I would suggest a change though. A round winner normally gains 1000 credits. To win a round these days can take up to 50m troops, even in only a mild points round. However someone can not spend a thing and get 500% of this credit advantage by opening their wallet. All the time the points and credits system are how they are I do not believe you will have a fair game. I suggest that a player should only be able to gain credits through purchase for as long as it would take them to win those credits (at highest position).

For example:

A player spends $50 and is rewarded 5000 credits. A round winner is awarded 1000 credits a round. Therefore a donator should have to wait five rounds before spending the same amount.

This would even up the arguement of purchasing credits as it gives players some chance to catch up with those who have the ability to pay for credits.

$=Credits is the only way for SL to survive, suck up and live with it.
