Distance of probing and nearby is shown as radius, but in reality, it is a cube and not a sphere that is probed.

So, nearby sees cube of space that is 750 distant from planet in all directions. Probe scans 100 to 250 (depending on upgrades) in all directions.

Thus, total volume of space shown by nearby is 1500x1500x1500. Total volume of probe (with full upgrade) is 500x500x500.
