Yes I agree Filas, my idea for him just to build up was wrong. However the ONLY nearby planet he had was a well known player with a defence so big that no-one would even consider buying the co-ords.

Joining a clan is an idea woth considering but wouldn't stop him getting "wiped" as soon as he came out of immunity.

As we all know, probing is a complete waste of time and resources. In the time I have played I have only ever found a handful of planets through probing and that was when I very first started.

joining the clan during first days of immunity should help much - I mean tha clan, which can pass several coords for newbie.

And for the probing I have my own opinion. It helped me to survive when I was a newbie. I was a bit more lucky than your friend - I had nearby inactive player then. But after I captured that system, no more capturable planets were nearby. So I had 6 planets with no possibility to expand. So I collected mostly iron in all my planets for couple of days and then sold it for mostly gold and some silicon, hydrogen and uranium for quite good price. In this deal I aquired enough gold for probing 5 cubes 1000*1000*1000. 2 or 3 cubes were empty, but in all the scan gave me coords of about 10 systems. Couple of those had uncolonized planets. So my expansion went fast. So mostly probing helped me to get uncapturable homeworld just in one month.

I think using good strategy and with getting some help any active (playing SL >2 hours per day) player can get 14mln homeworld in 1 month.
I have a plan to make a clan for helping newbies and using my plan of surviving (giving them instructions, some coords, some resources, but NOT giving uncapturable HP - they must build it thamselves).
